Epoxy Flake Floors in Binghamton, NY: Garages, Basements & Commercial

Epoxy flake floors are a durable, good-looking way to finish concrete, and Starkrete has installed them across Binghamton and the Southern Tier since 2004. We'll be straight with you, though. Epoxy is a great fit for many interior and commercial floors, but for most garages we recommend polyaspartic flake instead. This page explains where epoxy works, where it doesn't, and how we install it.

We install both coatings because both have their place. A garage sees sunlight through an open door, road salt, freezing slush and hot tires, and it needs to be back in use fast, which is exactly what polyaspartic is good at. A basement, workshop, warehouse or showroom is a different job, and that's where epoxy often shines.

Where epoxy flake floors make sense

  • Basements: a bright, sealed, easy-to-clean floor for a family room, gym or laundry area.

  • Workshops and home shops: stands up to tools, oil and dragging equipment.

  • Warehouses and storage: a tough, chemical-resistant surface that's easy to sweep.

  • Showrooms and retail: a clean, professional look with a decorative flake finish.

  • Commercial kitchens, break rooms and service areas: a seamless floor that's easy to keep clean.

  • Other indoor spaces out of direct sunlight, where epoxy's lower cost goes further.

Benefits of epoxy flake

  • Lower upfront cost than polyaspartic, which helps on large interior or commercial floors.

  • Strong bond to properly prepared concrete and good chemical resistance.

  • Can be built up thick to even out minor flaws in the slab.

  • The Torginol flake finish hides dust and wear and adds texture underfoot.

  • Seamless and low-maintenance: sweep, then mop with mild soap and water.

  • Backed by our 10-year written warranty.

Why we usually recommend polyaspartic for garages

Most epoxies amber or yellow when sunlight hits them, and they need about a week before a car can park on them. A polyaspartic flake floor (polyaspartic is a type of polyurea) is UV stable, and in a typical 2-car garage we finish it in one day so you can drive on it the next day. That's why our garage floor coatings are almost always polyaspartic. If epoxy is the better fit for your space, we'll tell you that too.

Our process

  • Free estimate: We look at the space and how you use it, then recommend epoxy or polyaspartic.

  • Diamond grinding: Every floor is diamond-ground so the coating bonds to clean, open concrete.

  • Crack repair: Cracks are repaired before coating.

  • Base coat and Torginol flake: We apply a professional-grade epoxy base coat and broadcast flake to full coverage.

  • Clear top coat: We scrape off loose flake and seal it with a clear top coat.

  • Cure: We'll give you a return-to-service schedule for your project.

Colors and flake blends

Choose from a wide range of Torginol flake blends. We stock 8 blends of 1/4-inch flake, and each one has a suggested base coat color:

  • Comet

  • Saddle Tan

  • Stone Henge

  • Domino

  • Creek Bed

  • Shoreline

  • Night Fall

  • Snowfall

These Torginol blends work over both polyaspartic and epoxy base coats, so you can match a basement or shop floor to your garage. Colors on screen are approximate, so ask to see real samples at your free estimate.

We can, but for most garages we recommend polyaspartic because it won't yellow in sunlight and you can drive on it the next day.

Where is epoxy the better choice?
Interior spaces like basements, workshops, warehouses, showrooms and commercial kitchens, especially big floors where epoxy's lower cost helps.

Does epoxy yellow?
Most epoxies amber in sunlight over time, which is why we keep epoxy to indoor floors.

How do you prepare the concrete?
Every floor is diamond-ground and the cracks are repaired before coating.

Is there a warranty?
Yes, a 10-year written warranty.
